Death in the Family

At 11:11pm this evening, our favorite little cat Sabine was taken to some other place (she died), and her special little face and her happy little whiskers became none but accessories to a quickly stiffening corpse. As ineffective as it might seem to use your tongue as a primary means of cleaning yourself, I've recently come to the conclusion that it works. works well (for animals). I don't think Sabine had had the capacity to continue licking herself for the past few days as her health declined, and thus she bore the stench of demise well before she expired in earnest. Below are some images of our family's funerary preparations, although Sabine's remains will not be committed to the earth until tomorrow afternoon. Those who remember her will do so with a smile; those who never got to pet her, rest assured that she was much cuter than your cat. No joke. Was she the cutest cat ever? Possibly, but eternity is a long time, and time has run out for our little short-haired tabby.

Jeremey Jansen and I have just installed and opened our contribution to Toronto's month-long photo extravagasm at the Winter Gallery on Dundas St W (@ Rusholme Dr). The photographs being exhibited consist of three vegetable plants we extracted from the Winter Gallery Garden in the spring of 2007 after they had spent the winter dead and rotting in the dirt. BOX GRAPH

This is one of the twenty four graphs that have been produced through the analysis of data from the Box Game. David Horvitz and I, and our traveling companion Julianne, collected these answers while touring America, visiting places and playing our game with whosoever would have us. 

To read the graph: 

FREQUENCY is the number of times people voted for each response (the number of times each response was found in the box);

SIZE corresponds to a value between -10 and 10 that indicates how big or small the answer is, relative to the size of the box (which is at 0 on the size scale);

MATERIALITY corresponds to how conceptual/abstract (-10) or how real/concrete (10) the answer is, relative to the answer ANOTHER BOX (which is at 0 and was chosen because it occupies both a real possibility space for being in the box, and also the conceptual space of asking, or deferring the real towards a potential for having the game continue, as another box is an idea that requires another game, or another attempt, to answer what's in that box etc.)

Canada Now was the very last exhibition ever, as well as the very last HISTORICAL art exhibition of 2008. It included a collection of photocopied artworks stapled to a wall curated by Niall McClelland and I, and works by Robin Cameron and Jeremy Jansen. Super Exciting, here are the images and the nearly-illegible postcard:

press release - Urgency is the tone set by this impromptu exhibition opening and closing New Years Eve 2008 at the outdoor Winter Gallery project space located in the burgeoning cultural community of Toronto's Little Portugal. A Xerographic Historical Survey of Canadian Art from the Toronto Reference Library Book Collection, curated by Niall McClelland and Lukas Geronimas, will be on display along with swiftly realized works by Jeremy Jensen and Robin Cameron.
